French firms eye investments in Sri Lanka, envoy says

French companies are looking for investment opportunities in Si Lanka, the Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka Eric Lavertu said on a visit to the Chinese-built and run Hambantota port on the south coast.

Lavertu held talks with officials of the Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG) which operates the port, located close to the main east-west trade route across the Indian Ocean.

He discussed investment opportunities for France in Sri Lanka, a statement from HIPG said.

“He had lengthy discussions with the HIP team on future prospects and development during his three-hour visit.”

Lavertu met with key officials including Ray Ren, chief executive of HIPG and Ravi Jayawickreme, chief executive of Hambantota International Port Services (HIPS).
