One injured in an explosion in Mullaitivu, two arrested

A 42-year-old man was hospitalised after a mortar bullet exploded when he tried to pull it apart at Silawatta Model Village in Mullaitivu yesterday, the Police said.

They said the victim, who is an owner of an old ironware collection store was critically injured in the explosion and was admitted to the Manchole Hospital.

The Mullaitivu police who had launched an investigation into the incident had recovered three more mortar bullets and 4 kg of explosives at the victim’s house.

The 69-year-old mother of the businessman and a 39-year-old brother has been arrested on charges of possession of explosions.

Police said arrested would be produced in the Mullaitivu Magistrate’s Court.
