President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today ordered the relevant officials to take measures to immediately stop Oil Palm (Katu Pol) cultivation in the country, the President’s Media Division said.
He made the order after the people of Galle complained that Katu Pol cultivation was one of the main reasons for the water scarcity.
President Rajapaksa, who was presiding the Galle District Coordinating Committee meeting, said a proper environmental study should be carried out immediately over the issue.
Though the cultivation generated a large income, he said the it should be stopped immediately if it affects the environment.
