The Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka (ARASL), as their strategy of having constant national level competition for their athletes will be having the Junior and Intermediate National Rowing Championships from 10th to 12th of March 2022 at Diyawanna Rowing Centre Ruwanpura.
As a part of the selected few sports in the high performance program of Ministry of Sports rowing has been Aggregative developing it’s junior and senior talent pools under a foreign coach Mr Pedro Sanz.
“In 2021, during the ravaging Pandemic situation we were able to conduct the 36th Senior and Intermediate National Championships in March 2021 and no sooner the schools re-opened the Junior National Championship despite many obstacles these competitions were conducted under extremely strict COVID protocols in very successful manner without any major COVID incidents thus inducting talent needed to identify , develop and train our senior and junior National pools for forthcoming international competition.“ said Mr.Dimuth Gunawardena, president of the Amateur Rowing Association
The above event will be with the participation of 12 schools and clubs in the junior category as follows

S Thomas College
There will be three age group categories of Under 14 ,Under 16 and Under18 classified for competition.
In the Intermediate category there are 7 institutions and clubs taking part namely ,

Sri Lanka Army
Sri Lanka Navy
Sri Lanka Air Force
While there will be about historically a large number of races being rowed each amounting to about 45 to 46 races per day on Thursday and Friday on the final day of Saturday all the finals races amounting 31 in total will be worked out as follows.
– Under 14 – 4 races
– Under 16 – 5 races
– Under 18 – 10 races
– Intermediate – 10 races
– School Boy Sculler Trophy
– School Girl Sculler Trophy
While this events will be used to identify prospective talent on one hand it will also provide an opportunity to the current national pool athletes and opportunity to compete with each other an showcase their athletic prowess which is an essential component in international training.
The main sole sponsor of this event will be SLT-Mobitel who has been supporting and encouraging the growth of this sport in Sri Lanka the last few years. The chief guest for this event will be the Chairman of SLT-Mobitel Mr. Rohan Fernando.
