The opening ceremony of Sri Lanka University Games (SLUG) was held at the University of Ruhuna yesterday (26) under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
SLUG, conducted every three years, is considered the most important sporting event among the universities.
It is held with the participation of all state universities in the country. Every university will have the opportunity to host the event while this year’s games are being hosted by the University of Ruhuna.
The students will compete in 22 events under 35 different categories.
The official flag of the games was handed over to the President to mark the inauguration of the event.
