US top diplomats meet opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa

United States Acting Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells and U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives, Alaina Teplitz met opposition leader, Mahinda Rajapakse today, at his official residence.

The meeting was held just hours before Rajapaksa is expected to declare the Presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna at the party’s first convention at 3 p.m. today.

Wells who is on an 11 day official visit to the Indian subcontinent, will hold bilateral consultations on issues of mutual interest with senior government officials in Sri Lanka in addition to meetings with business leaders and civil society.
