Coronavirus in UAE: 15 new cases announced

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Tuesday confirmed 15 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus in the country.

This brings the total number of infected people in the country to 74. As many has 12 cases have so far recovered.

In a statement, the health ministry said the cases involve three Italians, two Emiratis, two from UK, two from Sri Lanka, two Indians, a German, a South African, a Tanzanian and an Iranian.

The announcement comes after the ministry announced 14 new cases on Monday, even as the ministry and all health authorities in the country are taking steps to contain the spread of the disease.

In the latest such step, passengers returning from one of the top 10 countries reporting local transmission of Covid-19 will have to undergo home isolation for 14 days, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has said.

This is to ensure they remain infection-free and avoid spreading the virus in case they end up developing symptoms during the 14-day incubation period.

Presently, the ‘countries of concern’ are China, Hong-Kong, Italy, Iran, South Korea, Japan, Germany, Singapore and France, “but the list can quickly change depending on the situation”.
